MCE Introduces BMS-Link — first product to link Elevator and Escalator Monitoring and Control to Building Management System
Rancho Cordova, CA
(June 16, 2008)
Motion Control Engineering, the industry’s leading manufacturer of non-proprietary elevator controls, and member of the Kinetek group of companies, has introduced software that integrates MCE elevator and escalator control and monitoring into existing building management software. BMS-Link, developed in cooperation with Gemini Integration Services, provides this capability for MCE’s iControl and new Motion line of elevator and escalator controls.
“This is a very exciting breakthrough for our industry,” said Ashur Kanon, MCE president. “Elevator contractors, facility managers and building owners have long sought the ability to link elevator and escalator monitoring into the same building management software that monitors heating/cooling, lighting and other critical building systems. MCE’s BMS-Link provides this important capability.”
BMS-Link enables the full integration of MCE controllers into a building management system (BMS), said Mohamed Ezzeddine, MCE vice president, research & development. “This is a tremendous innovation and is available with our flagship controller, iControl, and our entire line of new Motion controllers: Motion 2000 hydraulic control, Motion 3000ES escalator control, and Motion 4000 and Motion 4000MRL traction control.”
BMS-Link is a straight forward, simple web “appliance” that interfaces to the elevator or escalator system, according to Richard Palmer, BMS-Link applications engineer. “This unique software provides status displays and interactive control to Niagara brand building management system software. Users are able to view elevator occupancy, real-time car position, current and intended floor information, door position, and direction of travel — all through a Niagara building management system.” BMS-Link is also available with BACnet IP for non-Niagara systems.
BMS-Link was co-developed by Gemini Integration Services, a Niagara software integration consulting firm. Kanon noted that this first-time monitoring/control integration capability of BMS-Link is made possible by Gemini’s innovative web appliance. “Gemini has been an outstanding partner in this development process. We would not have been able to bring this product to the market without the considerable skills of Gemini.”
“We were thrilled at the opportunity to work with MCE and develop this product,” stated Jim Boggs, Gemini principal. “We introduced BMS-Link at the May 2008 Niagara Summit User’s Conference and received outstanding feedback.” Boggs noted that BMS-Link has already been successfully installed at Texas Women’s University, Bremerton Naval Hospital, and in multiple government buildings within the State of Michigan.
