Technical Bulletin IMC Control Products: Loss of Landing System Signals May Create Safety Hazard Immediate Action RequiredDateAug 1, 1998 Reference 108 Route toService Manager/Modernization Manager/Construction Manager Description When an IMC controller encounters undefined floor encoding signals, unpredictable operation, including unexpected car movement may result. This was first discovered when MCE received a report of unexpected car movement. After investigation, the cause was determined to be an undefined floor encoding signal. Undefined floor encoding can be caused by a multitude of failures including: broken traveling cable wires, loose terminals, component failures, worn tape guides, missing magnet(s), and/or excessive side-to-side car movement. Solution Enhanced Software : MCE engineers have developed enhanced
controller software that prevents unpredictable operation or unexpected
car movement resulting from loss of floor encoding signals. We have
made this software enhancement standard on new IMC controls. THIS SOFTWARE MUST BE INSTALLED ON ALL EXISTING IMC CONTROLS. Action Obtain/Install Replacement Software: MCE will provide the enhanced software for your IMC controls AT NO CHARGE. Call MCE at 916/463-9231 to verify the type and version of equipment you have on site, so MCE can provide the correct software. Installation will not require any readjustment except relearning the hoistway terminal limit switches.
