Technical Bulletin Fire Phase I (Recall) Door Operation with Walk Through DoorsSafety Issue--Immediate ActionDate January 23, 2002 Reference 128 Route to Service Manager/Modernization Manager From MCE Technical Support Department Equipment IMC, PTC, PHC, VVMC or VFMC controllers with BOTH constant pressure door closing operation AND walk through doors at the main or alternate fire floor. Description According to elevator codes, if a car with walk through doors is at a fire floor and the Fire Phase 1 (Recall) is activated, the designated door must open or remain open, and the opposite door should close or remain closed. In the case where the doors have constant pressure closing operation, the opposite door should remain open until constant pressure is applied to the door close button to close the door. MCE has discovered that elevators with constant pressure door closing operation AND walk through doors at the main or alternate fire floor will automatically close the door that requires constant pressure for closure.
This can cause an unsafe situation. Software for controllers shipped after 1/1/2002 has been corrected. Any products shipped prior to this date must be updated and inspected for proper operation. Action If you have cars with BOTH constant pressure closing operation AND walk through doors at the main or alternate fire floor, immediately call MCE Technical Support to obtain updated software.
